Stana Katic is a Canadian-born American film and television actress active in the United States. She is best known for her portrayal of Detective Kate Beckett in ABC's Castle.
Background
Stana (pronounced stah-na) was born in Canada to parents who originally hailed from the Dalmatian Coast in Croatia. Her parents are Serbs from Croatia; both immigrated to Canada from Yugoslavia before she was born.
Stana is named after her grandmother, with the name relating to the "evil eye" as a means of warding off bad things.[1] She is the oldest child and has four brothers and one sister.
Raised mostly in Canada, Stana also lived for a time in Aurora, Illinois. She attended West Aurora Senior High School, and graduated in June 1996. Stana can speak four languages fluently: French, English, Serbo-Croatian and Italian. She also says that she can "babble" a little in Greek.[2]
Career
Before playing Detective Kate Beckett, Stana played the characters of Hana Gitelman in Heroes and Collette Stenger in season 5 of 24.
She was also featured in the James Bond film Quantum of Solace (2008), in which she played "Corrine Veneau", a Canadian agent and girlfriend of the villain. In 2008, Stana founded her own production company called Sine Timore Productions.
Stana was one of about 140 actresses to audition for the role of Kate Beckett.[3] The scene in which Beckett "interrogates" Castle at the precinct was Stana's audition scene.[3]

- According to Stana, her middle name is not Jaqueline, and she doesn't know where that rumor started.[4]
- Stana has dual citizenship in Canada and the United States.

- In 2013, Maxim's Hot 100 list ranked Stana as #60.
- Stana wrote and sang the lyrics for "Hey Blue Eyes",[6] which she performed at the at the 51st Zlin Film Festival in 2011.
- In Season 8 of Castle, Stana became a Producer along with her co-star Nathan Fillion.
