Mr. Nutt began working at the age of eight in a small role in the film Born on the Fourth of July with Tom Cruise. Shortly after filming the movie, Nutt moved with his mother to New York City to further his acting career. Working in plays and commercials, Nutt even auditioned several times for the part that eventually went to Macaulay Culkin in Home Alone.
J.R. Nutt took a break from acting to attend college at the University of Texas in Austin, where he majored in theater. Although he has since resumed his career, and had multiple guest starring roles, Nutt says that he is most often recognized for his role as "Alexander" in Disney Channel's Cory in the House.
