Jason Avery was an FBI agent who was partnered with expert profiler Jordan Shaw, maintaining a good friendship with her as well as an effective professional dynamic. He worked with the team from the 12th Precinct while investigating serial killer Scott Dunn, although he did miss out on Dunn's capture, as he was investigating a fake trap that Dunn had set for them.

He displays very high-level data manipulation and gathering skills when employing the FBI version of the murderboard, and is able to multitask very efficiently. Whilst not precisely banter, and certainly not prone to meander as the Beckett-Castle dynamic frequently does, there is evident mutual respect in all aspects of his interaction with Shaw, and a definite sense on her part that she is giving due consideration to any input from him.
