Michelle was a Vodun practitioner, she began practising when she first witnessed the religion during a trip to Africa as a grad student- who provided Richard Castle with information on the religion in question during his research for his sixth Derrick Storm novel Unholy Storm. She later assisted Castle and Kate Beckett in analysing a perverted Vodun ritual-based murder, determining that their killer was seeking something by killing his victims in this particular manner ("Always Buy Retail").
